Konik PrimeStaff hosted our first Zoom Town Hall: Navigating your Technical Job Search in 2020 on April 21st! In case you missed the event, we’ve presented the key takeaways below. Don’t miss our next event coming up soon. Be sure to follow us on our LinkedIn page to sign up for the next event!
Key Takeaways:
- Stay Positive! We’re seeing many companies continuing their operations and hiring in many technical areas. The process has changed, yet our customers are resilient and pushing ahead.
- Our managers are consistently telling us: “We will get through this!” “We will be booming when this turns around!” and “There will be a pent of demand for goods and services as we recover!”
- Industries hiring now: Medical manufacturing, food and beverage processing, aerospace, construction, and government.
- Job functions that are more in demand than others: Electrical Engineers, Machine and Panel Builders, Medical Device Engineers, Construction Project Managers, Building Engineers, BIM Specialists, and Project Architects
- Be as flexible as possible in regards to your compensation, contract positions, etc. to keep your technical skills current
- Video interviewing will be the norm this year. Practice as much as possible to get comfortable with this new format.
- LinkedIn Tips: Refresh your Headline section, update the “Show Recruiters you’re open to new opportunities” tab and update your About section. In your Jobs section – Use generic titles like “Mechanical Engineer” rather than “Product Engineering Development Specialist” since most recruiters search this way.
- Networking Tips: Reach out to your current contacts, especially those you know well professionally or personally. Stay active on LinkedIn. Approach new contacts and ask for an intro call or virtual meetup.
Mock Interview:
As I mentioned during the webinar, please schedule a Mock Interview with me to practice your skills! Whether you joined the webinar or not, please schedule a time with me! Regardless if you have a scheduled interview or not, it’s always a great idea to sharpen your interview skills.
