Key Takeaways from yesterdays event:
Tom Goettl, Market Update
- National and local employment trends indicate the worst is behind us! National recruiting/staffing industry data shows signs of improvement in recent weeks, and we see the same in Minnesota. Contract employment positions are, and will continue to see an increase in the months ahead.
- Local industries hiring more than others include medical devices, medical equipment, rapid prototyping, home products, food processing, and civil infrastructure-related.
George Murray, Advice from a Technical Executive
- What qualities are you looking for in technical candidates? I look for how well the candidate works within their own department as well as others to solve technical problems. Are there answers well thought out, and to they have a strong problem-solving process are other qualities.
- What are some reasons you’ve selected one candidate over another? They come off genuine; they think thru the question; they bring energy, enthusiasm, and a positive attitude are critical.
- Best job search tips? Personal branding! Network extensively so you’re at the forefront of all candidates. Go directly to your targeted position manager ie. department manager, VP or CEO. Have a 30-second value proposition ready! As a general rule, try to network with three people within the organization.
- What is the single most important thing that someone can do to stand out? Get an understanding of the culture and department and roll your value proposition into your introduction. Set goals and structure in your search! Connect on a personal level. Speak 30% of the time, listen 70%.
